Saint Thyagaraja Rocks the U.S.!

cleveland aradhana

The Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana celebrates its 40th Anniversary in a town known more for its “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” than for celebrating Indian classical music!

However, the “Aradhana” has taken root in this largely industrial town on the shores of Lake Erie and thrived. Nothing can be more Indian than the culturally unique form of music and dance on display at this 10 day spectacular. Each year, the Aradhana is read into the Congressional record and as celebrated in the 1997 record by the Hon. Louis Stokes, is what this Great Country stands for:

Mr. Speaker, while some countries within our international community are stricken with obstacles such as war and poverty, the Thyagaraja Festival stands as an illustration of our city and Nation’s commitment to international unity and appreciation for cultural diversity. Again, I salute the organizers of the 1997 Thyagaraja Festival for creating an opportunity for the city of Cleveland and our great Nation to partake in an attempt to increase multicultural awareness and secure global peace.

This beautiful encomium to the Aradhana captures the essence of this Great Nation and the opportunity, recognition and support it offers diverse cultures and cultural practices.

The P-3 Visa is a wonderful visa program specially meant for cultural performers and applies to anyone:

…coming temporarily to perform, teach or coach as artists or entertainers, individually or as part of a group, under a program that is culturally unique.

The artists performing at the Aradhana are extremely talented musicians as evidenced by the itinerary on display for this year. Each one has performed as a group and individually over several years at the Aradhana and brings a wealth of talent to their unique art form.

This year in fact promises to be one of the largest (250 plus) in terms of performers. Delivering the entire group on time and ready to enthrall audiences from all over the U.S. and Canada is a special honor and privilege. Our Office has kept this commitment for 20 years and is extremely proud of its association with the Festival.

We wish the Aradhana the very best for 2017 and many more years to come!
